The Orlando, Florida chapter of Variety Children's Charity was
pleased to provide helmets for twin 7-month-old boys to treat
a condition called plagiocephaly. Plagiocephaly literally
means “oblique head” and refers to a condition where
pressure against the skull of the fetus before birth leads to
deformation of the skull. The condition is very treatable
using custom fitted helmets for cranial remolding. The
critical time for treatment is early in the child's life before
the bones of the skull have fused.

Rylan and Gavin were denied coverage by their insurance company
for the prescribed helmets. The boys’ mother, Adrienne,
contacted Variety Children's Charity requesting help in purchasing
the helmets which were priced at $6,000 for both. Prosthetic
and Orthotic Associates in Orlando agreed to provide the helmets
and therapy at their cost resulting in a significant savings. The
children now have the helmets and are receiving the therapy they
need to correct the condition.

The generous donations of the patrons of Variety Children's
Charity help transform the lives of children like Rylan and Gavin
in our local communities and all over the world.
